Winter Storm Engagement | Stacy + Mario

Taking Stacy and Mario’s engagement photos in a winter storm wasn’t the plan we had - but it’s exactly what went down. And it. was. AWESOME.

Winter Storm Caleb began showing warnings the day of the session, but since both Stacy + Mario and myself were driving from out of town to the chosen location, we were all already en route by the time the warnings became serious. We arrived to a Sleeping Bear Dunes lookout when there had been a small lull in snowfall - but the parking lot (and roads leading to it) had already been deeply covered (thank God for snow tires!). Laughing and slightly nervous, we decided to just give it our all and see what happened.

We got to the top of the lookout when there was a lovely little break in the storm, just enough to glimpse the Caribbean blue water of Lake Michigan. But it wasn’t long before the storm picked up again with gusto - and you’ll notice the quick transition among these images as the snow picks up and our view of the lake disappears! I think we lasted about 20 minutes before visibility of each other had become affected and we called it good. In the end, we couldn’t have had a better session. We laughed deeply, our boots and socks and jeans thoroughly soaked, and most importantly - all made it home safely.

A screenshot of the daily snow totals - we were smack dab in the middle of that northern area marked by 30 inches! And we’re pretty sure it all fell during our session ;)
